Major Gas Works - London Road and Little Mount Sion

We have received the following communication from SGN regarding major gas works on London road and Little Mount Sion:

UPDATE:

Good morning

Update of major gas works: London Road and Little Mount Sion, Tunbridge Wells – Friday, 8 November

Following on from my previous communications, I am writing to provide you with an update regarding our gas works in London Road and High Street, Tunbridge Wells.

We have completed our engineering works along London Road at the junction with the High Street. Our temporary traffic lights have been removed and we have begun our process of reinstatement. For everyone’s safety while this work is carried out, the High Street remains closed to motorists, buses and cyclists at this junction. A signed diversion route is in place via Vale Road.

Following completion of our reinstatement, we will remove our equipment from site and expect to safely reopen the High Street to motorists by Saturday, 9 November.

To minimise disruption to the local community and in the lead up to the busy festive period, we will suspend our project and return in January 2020.

Following consultation with Kent County Council, phase two of our project will now start on Monday, 20 January, where we will begin working in Little Mount Sion at the junction with Warwick Road.

Please feel free to share this information with your own stakeholders and anyone you think may be impacted by our work.

We appreciate your understanding and patience. If you have any further questions, please let me know.

Kind regards

ORIGINAL COMMUNICATION:

Good afternoon

Notification of major gas works: London Road and Little Mount Sion, Tunbridge Wells.

We’re writing to make you aware of a forthcoming works to our gas network in London Road and Little Mount Sion, Tunbridge Wells. Our project involves the essential reinforcement of our gas mains to ensure we continue to provide a safe and reliable gas supply to the local area. Our contractor, Forefront Utilities will undertake this work on our behalf.

We‘ve been working closely with Kent County Council and agreed to start our project on Sunday 20 October. Our engineers will be working in London Road and Little Mount Sion as follows:

Phase one

London Road – Approximately three weeks

  • We plan to start our work on Sunday 20 October and last for approximately three weeks
  • Our engineers will be working in London Road at its junction with the High Street.
  • For everyone’s safety we need to install temporary traffic lights in London Road, around our work area. We will also need to close the High Street at this junction. Signed diversions will be in place for motorists via Vale Road and access will be maintained for pedestrians.
  • Once we have completed our work at this location, we’ll temporarily suspend work until the start of January 2020

Phase two

Little Mount Sion – Approximately four weeks

  • We will return to Little Mount Sion on Monday 8 January, where will begin upgrading our network at its junction with Warwick Road.
  • For everyone’s safety we will need to close Little Mount Sion at this junction. Signed diversions will be in place for motorists via Mount Sion and access will be maintained for pedestrians.

Phase three

Little Mount Sion – Approximately four weeks

  • We will continue upgrading our network on Little Mount Sion, working towards the High Street.
  • For everyone’s continued safety Little Mount Sion will remain closed around our work area, signed diversions will be in place for motorists via Mount Sion and access will be maintained for pedestrians. We will also need to install temporary traffic lights in the High Street at this junction.

All businesses remain open as usual and pedestrian access, deliveries and refuse collections will be maintained around our work area. We’re continuing to plan further phases of our work in consultation with Kent County Council. We’ll provide details of our plans once confirmed.

We are also planning to upgrade the gas network in Calverley Road – full details can be found at Roadwork.org.

We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, Tunbridge Wells residents will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.

Do let me know if there is anything further I can help with or you have any questions

Kind regards
