16 March 2020
Message from Nicole McNab, Stakeholder and Community Manager, SGN:
We are writing to make you aware of the forthcoming upgrades to our gas network in Church Road and London Road (A26), Southborough. Our project involves the essential replacement of old metal gas mains and individual service pipes, with new plastic pipe. This will ensure we continue to provide a safe and reliable gas supply to the local area. Our contractor Medway Civils & Utilities will undertake this work on our behalf.
In close consultation with Kent County Council, we have agreed to complete the following work in phases, which includes traffic management in place to ensure the safety of everyone around the site. We will send updates as the project progresses.
Please find details regarding the first phase below:
- On the week commencing 16 March 2020 for approximately 4 weeks, we need to implement a road closure on Victoria Road at the junction with Church Road
- During this time, we will be working on Church Road from the junction of Victoria Road towards Fountain House Church Road
- A signed diversion will be in place
- Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout
The next phase of work will involve Church Road and London Road, and is currently scheduled to start during the week commencing 13 April 2020.
Please note, although pedestrian access will always be maintained, we may need to restrict vehicle and/or parking for residents during the project. We will provide residents and businesses with advance notice if/when this needs to happen.
We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, residents and businesses will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
