Norah Traquair - Piano & Oboe

Offering individual 1:1 lessons from Year 1, 30 minute lessons for £21.50. Opportunities for ABRSM Practical Grade exams. Please email NTPianoTuition@gmail.com

I started learning the piano at primary school and oboe from 12, and went on from there to study Music at university. For many years I worked in the music industry, including in a West End theatre company before having children. I have since been part of the St. John’s team from 2018 in both administration and classroom roles. My own children went to St. John’s, and on Thursdays, I thoroughly enjoy assisting with the after school singing club Perolls Pop School.

I truly believe Music is one of the most important things we can introduce to our children. What other subject alone could help develop all of the following multiple skill sets?

  • fine and gross motor skills
  • memory, concentration and focus
  • language processing and development
  • creative problem solving and decoding
  • maths (through rhythm- fractions, proportion, ratios)
  • social skills, inclusion and teamwork
  • self discipline and motivation
  • risk taking, experimentation and resilience
  • confidence and self esteem
  • self expression

and most importantly, music relieves stress and is emotionally calming.

ALL the stuff we need in life from just one subject. 💪🎶

My qualifications:

  • Kingston University BA Mus (Honours Degree) in Music (2:1)
  • ABRSM Grade 8 Piano / ABRSM Grade 8 Oboe / ABRSM Grade 5 Theory
  • Peripatetic Piano Tuition in three local Primary Schools
  • Training in and understanding of Autism and ADHD

“The true purpose of Arts Education is not necessarily to create more professional actors and performers - it is to create more complete human beings who are critical thinkers.”
