Sports Reviews 2021 - 2022

St John's B Team are 1 game away from winning the Schools B League.  A 6-0 win over St Augustine's last week was followed up with a 10-1 win against Bidborough this week to take the season's tally to 44 goals in 5 games with only 1 conceded.

Basketball Tournament at Skinners

St John’s competed in a Basketball Tournament at Skinners. We competed against 11 other teams in the local area and managed to finish second overall. We played incredibly hard throughout and demonstrated good team basketball and sportsmanship. We competed in the final again St Matthews and it was a very close game. This is an incredible result given the COVID challenges presented during training practise. The team worked incredibly hard and showed good team basketball and sportsmanship throughout. Mr Hizaoui was incredibly proud. Well done!

St John’s V St James 10/2/2022 (Girls football team)

Our second match of the term was against St James’. We won 4-0 in our first away game of the season to give us a record (so far) of played 3 and won 3. We all played really well especially as we played in difficult conditions. Girl of the game was Haze who scored one but was involved in most of our goals. Indica scored 2 and Alice also scored. We really enjoyed the game and wanted to thank St James’ for hosting us.

ST Johns V Paddock Wood 20/1/22 (Girls Football team)

On Thursday, the girls’ football team played a wonderful match against Paddock Wood Primary School. The girls who played were from years 5 and 6. Both teams played tremendously, it was a game not to be missed as the score was 4-0 to St John’s! The scorers were: Alice (2), Manvi (1) and Haze (1). All of the girls selected played very extremely well. Our favourite part of the match was Manvi’s goal because it was her first match and we were very happy for her when she scored. Lastly we think that without Mr Bradbeer we might not have won as he is a big part of our team because he keeps us going and checks if we are ok when we get hurt.

ST JOHNS VS ST MARKS

Thursday 25th November
St Johns A team hosted St Marks in their second match of the season.
We were quite excited before the match and were looking forward to continuing from where we left off after game 1.  We wanted to be strong at the back, reset to our goalkeeper when we needed to and be confident with passing the ball to every player on the pitch.  It was great that we had so many goal scorers and the victory was a real team effort.  The final score was 7-0 to St Johns.

St Johns VS Skinners' Kent Primary School

On Thursday 18^th November St John’s B team hosted Skinners Kent Primary School in our first game of the season.  Everyone had butterflies before the match, but when the game kicked off we felt a surge of confidence and relaxed into the game.  We wanted to play as a team instead of as individuals which meant we tried to pass the ball throughout the team and were even trying to reset and involve our goalie in helping us keep the ball.  It was great that we had so many different goal scorers however it was important that we respected the opposition with some of them being very new to football.   The final score was 12-0 to us but we know there are much tougher games ahead of us this season and we must not get carried away.

ST JOHNS VS SOUTHBOROUGH PRIMARY

On Thursday 11th November the St John's Primary School Football A Team kicked off their season with a deserved 4-1 victory against Southborough Primary School.

Southborough scored first from a corner but we remained calm and quickly equalised with a well worked team goal finished by Finley.  The pitch was wet and slippy but we still managed to stick to our passing game.  We have been practicing how to play out from the back and we were really pleased to be able to do it in a match.  We scored 3 more times, Finley with another and a goal each for Herbie and Etienne.  The match was played demonstrating great sportsmanship and respect by both teams.   Man of the match was Finley for scoring 2 great goals,

We are looking forward to our next game and wish the B Team luck this week as they take on Skinners Kent Primary School on Thursday in their first game.

ST JOHNS VS ST BARNABAS -  RUGBY

On Wednesday 13th October, a team from St. John's play in a rugby festival. The team consisted of: Harry, Logan, Crispin, Lydia, Finlay and George (all from Year 5) and Riley, Noah, Tommy and Sofia (all from Year 6). The first match was against St. Barnabas with a 6-4 win to St. John's. Following that win, there was an unlucky 6-7 loss against Langton Green, who were the best team there, with a very controversial try at the end scored by Langton. The final match was against Bishops Down where we won against them 11-1 meaning, overall, St. John's came second in their group. 

Before the festival, the team received some amazing training from Alex Nicholson and we are very grateful for his time and support - thank you!

A huge well done to the team for showing fantastic team spirit throughout the festival.

ST JOHNS VS Skinners’ Kent Primary School - Girls Football

On Wednesday 6 October the girls played their first home match in about two years against Skinners’ Kent Primary School (S.K.I.P.S). The girls who played were: Alice from Chestnut, Tess, Indica and Grace from Elder, Lorelei, Sophie and Maria from Pine and Alexis and Daphne from Hawthorn. We won the game 4-1 with Alice scoring three goals and Sophie scored the other after being assisted by Indica. We think that Daphne played a key part in one of the goals by passing to Indica due to her amazing turn with the ball. Sadly, one of our players Haze had to drop out because she was ill and we feel that she would have made a big impact on the team. Lastly thank you to all the girls that played and also to Mr Bradbeer for helping us play well.
