St Johns Orchestra Club - Naomi Niblett

St John’s Orchestra Club was formed in 2023.  Open to years 3, 4, 5 and 6. 

Orchestra Club is run by Naomi Niblett, a local music teacher with over 30 years’ experience. Naomi studied violin in London with Professor Paul Robertson, leader of the Medici String Quartet. After graduating from university Naomi obtained her PGCE in Secondary Music with Performing Arts at Homerton College, Cambridge and has been classroom teaching in secondary schools and more recently, instrumental teaching in both primary and secondary schools in Cambridgeshire, Kent and Sussex. Naomi has directed school orchestras and string orchestras and she directs the strings for Tonbridge Young Musicians ( Home | tyms ) at Judd. When she has time, Naomi enjoys playing with the Royal Tunbridge Wells Symphony Orchestra and playing in smaller chamber ensembles at events and concerts.

All music is provided, at the level of the child, whether they know just the first 4 notes, or are Grade 5! 
 

Any instrument can be played - we currently have flutes, recorders, violins, guitars, ukuleles, xylophones, harp and percussion. Children who learn piano are very welcome to come and play xylophones. There is no audition to join but children need to be able to read and play 4 notes on their chosen instrument. 

Currently, 13 children come along every week to rehearse from 3.15 - 4.15 on a Wednesday after school. 

We play a mix of classical tunes, film, folk, pop songs and world music. The orchestra has performed at the Christmas Carol Service,  PTA carols in the playground, a workshop organised by the Royal Tunbridge Wells Symphony Orchestra at Rose Hill School and the Tunbridge Wells Primary Schools Orchestra Workshop at The Skinners School with over 100 other children from local schools. 

Orchestra Club costs £6 per week and a taster session is available on request.
