Spirituality
Fundamentally, our approach to understanding spirituality is by looking at:
Myself, others, beauty and beyond.
Therefore, at St. John’s, we are continually striving to support every child’s spiritual development in line with our vision, and with the SIAMS expectation that Collective Worship should be inclusive, invitational and inspiring. We recognise that spiritual development looks different for each individual, and we aim to create space for all children to encounter and respond to the presence, power and peace of God in ways that are meaningful to them.
For those who may not recognise God as revealed in the Bible, our practice seeks to provide a space in which each person can choose to connect with something greater than themselves. Through prayer, silence, reflection, storytelling, song and shared experiences, we encourage children to explore their own beliefs and values, deepen their sense of identity and belonging, and grow in their understanding of themselves, others and the wider world. Ultimately, spirituality is a deeply personal journey of seeking understanding, connection and transcendence, and our worship aims to honour and support each child’s unique path. Worship is rooted in our distinctive Christian vision and creates a rhythm to school life that nurtures spiritual curiosity, compassion and courage in every child.
